Stemmatology

Misreading

Misreading refers to the replacement of a letter in the exemplar with a similar looking, but incorrect, letter, for example the writing of c for e. While misreading does not explicitly posit the cause for a mistranscription, it frequently implies graphical misapprehension of letter forms (cf. copying of texts (3)).

Cf. types of errors.
